Jonah Introduction

Introduction to Jonah

Ah Jonah... the man with the plan. The man who ran. The man who... thought he could out-think God?

Have you ever seen the movie “Runaway Bride?” Well in this movie, the woman is engaged to I think 4 men at different times. Every time she gets close to the altar... she can't stand it and turns away and runs. At the end of the movie, she goes to the man she just ran out on... and turns in her running shoes. She is deciding not to run anymore.

We all are runners. We all try to do things on our own. We are given an assignment, or something is asked of us... and we run from it. Whether it's God asking initially for our hearts, or whether it's something He asks of us later in our walk with Him. We all have these times in which we question God's motives and purpose... and think that surely God made a mistake or we heard Him incorrectly...

This is the story of a persistent and relentless God. A God who refuses to give up.

It is a story of compassion... and redemption. No matter how far you fall, no matter how low you go... God will still seek you out so as to show His love to you and those around you.

It is a story of Grace. And forgiveness... even if unwilling forgiveness on the part of Jonah.

Following God is a choice... an active decision. Will you follow wherever He leads?
